Vanilla Chai Tea Inspired by Memories at Dunkin' Donuts

Ingredients
For the chai tea syrup
- 2 cups water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 slice of fresh ginger
- 1 star anis
- 1/2 tbsp whole cloves
- 1 tbsp Assam black tea
- 1/2 tsp ground cardamom (I really like the Rani brand - others don't have the same roasted flavor)
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
For the sweet milk froth
- 4 cup milk of your choice
- 2 tsp condensed milk
Steps
Make the chai tea.
In a saucepan over medium-high heat, add the following ingredients in the below order:
- 2 cups water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 slice of fresh ginger
- 1 star anis
- 1/2 tbsp whole cloves
- 1 tbsp Assam black tea
- 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
Bring mixture to a light simmer 175-212°F (79-100°C). Drop to low heat, and let simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.
Strain the mixture to remove solids, and keep the liquid.
Make the sweet milk froth.
In a frother, froth until you get a creamy, foamy texture:
- 4 cups milk of your choice
- 2 tsp condensed milk
Or if your frother is small like mine, froth each serving separately: 1 cup milk and 1/2 tsp condensed milk.
Assemble and serve.
For each serving, pour about 1/4 cup of the chai tea into a cup. Then, add about 1 cup of the frothy sweet milk.
Optional: Sprinkle a little bit of ground cinnamon on top.
